At Brisbane City Celebrants, we’re passionate about your ceremony being seamless, genuine and enjoyable. When it comes to writing wedding vows, we get that it can be daunting not knowing where to start or what to expect, so here’s how we help:

Our Simple, Supportive Wedding Vow Writing Process

  • We provide every couple with our exclusive ‘Easy Vow Writing Guide’ with sentence starters for you to choose from to get you started, and also our ‘Vow Writing Worksheet’ full of ideas and inspiration of how you can structure your vows, in ways that reflect your personalities, while fitting with your vision, of how you would like your ceremony to feel.

  • If you’ve chosen to keep your vows a surprise, we invite you to email them to us separately, by 1 month before your wedding, for us to proof and provide any relevant feedback to you.
  • Once checked and confirmed, we print your vows onto keepsake vow card and present them in our luxury vow holders, designed to look beautiful in your ceremony photos and to keep your vows secure on the day.
  • When your ceremony has concluded, we pop your vow cards in an envelope with your marriage certificate, so you can enjoy each other’s words again later.

Why Couples Appreciate our Approach to wedding vows

  • There’s no need to worry about having to remember to bring your vows on the day, we’ll have them printed and ready to hand to you at the perfect moment.
  • We ALWAYS step off to the side out of camera shot while you are sharing your vows, so your Photographer can perfectly capture these memorable moments without us being in shot.

We had to dig deep to find photos showcasing us standing off to the side ‘out of shot’ – for obvious reasons, however but we did find the following captured by some very sharp Photographers, which give you an idea of our positioning.

  • Our neutral, custom-made vow holders are timeless and elegant, ensuring your photos remain focused on you. With us, you never have to worry about your photos having distracting brand colours, logos or business names.

  • Reading from a sturdy vow card holder is far more practical (and wind-proof!) than a loose sheet of paper.
  • We never use folders or vow card holders with loud colours, big logos, or business names. We believe every part of your ceremony is about the both of you, not about our branding being in your wedding photos.

These are just some of the many ways we ensure your ceremony is about you as a couple-never about us.

Expert Tips for Writing the Perfect Wedding Vows

  1. Start by making notes of your partners personality traits, habits, past times and passions that you admire that make them unique or traits that make your partner a great fit for you.
e.g. Perhaps your partner is the super organised one (and you’re not). Perhaps you admire how they’re so thoughtful, smart or funny.
  2. Vow Vibes – Your vows will feel truly authentic if the tone matches the vibe of your ceremony and relationship.
Consider the tone of your ceremony, is it fun, lighthearted and relaxed, or formal, and deeply meaningful. Also consider the dynamics of your relationship are you always joking and laughing or are you more about having deep meaningful conversations (or a combination of each).

3. Highlight What You Love About Your Partner
Then with the purpose of letting your partner know exactly why they’re so special to you, using the ‘Easy Vow Writing Guide’, complete your chosen ‘sentence starters’ with these personality characteristics converted to phrases, sharing the qualities you admire most-whether it’s their kindness, sense of humour or unwavering support.

4. Promises are optional
Vows are about telling your loved one why you love them and are marrying them. They don’t have to be a list of promises.

5. Keep them Concise
Aim for anywhere between a short, sincere paragraph to a maximum of 1 x A4 page. Ensuring your vows aren’t too long, will reduce wedding nerves on the day, being easier to deliver.

6. Practice Reading Your Vows Out Loud
Read your vows out loud (when your partner isn’t around of course) before the big day. Practising helps with nerves and ensures your delivery feels natural and confident. We suggest having this practice the evening before, avoid doing this the morning of your wedding if there’s a chance reading them may get emotional (try and save any heartfelt happy tears for the ceremony!).

7. Consider Keeping Your Vows a Surprise
Sharing your vows for the first time during your ceremony creates a moment of genuine surprise and emotion. A memory you’ll both always cherish.
