A Destination Wedding in Brisbane: Garden Party Perfection with Sun, Shots, and Smiles

I seriously adored being the Wedding Celebrant for this fun-filled destination wedding in Brisbane. Such a wonderful couple, who along with their guests travelled all the way from the UK! and what a wedding it was!

There is something incredibly special about sharing the wedding ceremony planning journey with couples who travel across the globe to say “I Do” here in beautiful Brisbane.

Based in the UK, they had visited Brisbane on previous travel adventures and completely fell in love with each other – and our city! So, when it came time to plan their big day, they knew exactly where they wanted to be, back in the sunshine at Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens.

Garden Party Perfection at Palm Tree Lawn

Coming from the Uk, this couple wanted to take full advantage of the beautiful Brisbane sunny weather. They opted for a lunch time ceremony at the gorgeous Palm Tree Lawn, which allowed them to flow straight into a relaxed celebration right there on the lawn.

To set the scene, our ceremony decor service With Love – Brisbane Wedding Decorators styled the space with our Luxe White Circular Arbour, creating a crisp, focal point to frame the couple against the lush, tropical palm leaf backdrop.

If you are currently living overseas and dreaming of a garden party wedding in Australia, you might be wondering how it all works with the marriage paperwork?

Planning a destination wedding in Brisbane?

If you are travelling from overseas to get married in Brisbane, a question we get asked often is: Can we legally get married in Australia if we live in the UK?” (or elsewhere overseas).

The answer is YES! and it’s actually much easier than you might think! As long as you are over 18 and not currently married to anyone else and get your signed and witnessed NOIM form to us at least 1 month prior, it’s a straightforward process.

  • The Marriage Paperwork: We can handle the lodging of your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) via email/remote witnessing. This just needs to be done at least one month before the wedding date.

  • The ID: You generally just need your passports.

  • The Location: You can get married practically anywhere. This couple choose Brisbane’s beautiful botanical gardens for their stunning garden wedding.

There is no residency requirement, your witnesses don’t need to be Australian residents or citizens either, meaning you can fly in, have the best day of your life, and fly home legally wed with the BEST memories of your wedding in Australia!

The Ceremony: Sun and Smiles

Back to this incredible fun-filled garden party style wedding! The atmosphere was nothing short of radiant.

It was a touching moment as her father walked her part of the way down through the gardens, then she walked alone to her mother, with the midday sun shing through her veil, she was absolutely glowing. Then her mother walked her the rest of the way down the aisle, a beautiful arrival to signify both parents’ contributions to her life, alongside her strength and independence.

Aligned with their vision, their ceremony was happy, thoroughly enjoyable, light while full of love and filled with smiles and giggles from the bride and groom and all their guests. We shared stories of their travels together and their life together.

They asked a couple of their family members to share some words about them and their journey, which felt so authentic, instead of poems or readings, the words written about the couple were insightful, funny, emotional, and just perfect.

Can you tell how much I love my role as a Wedding Celebrant?

Rest assured once the couple are comfortable, I always deliver parts of the ceremony while standing off to one side, so photographers have plenty of opportunity to capture beautiful images with just the couple, just like these.

A Surprise Finish with Shots!

After the rings were exchanged, the couple sealed the deal with a kiss to the cheers of their guests, and the marriage paperwork was signed.

That adorable excitement the moment I pronounced them as husband and wife!

Before the couple made their way back down the aisle as husband and wife, we had a surprise in store. We asked the guests to check under their chairs. Hidden beneath their chairs was a shot for everyone!

The whole wedding toasted the newlyweds with a shot, kicking off the celebrations with a big cheer before the couple exited down the aisle together.

Post-Ceremony Celebrations

Because they chose a midday ceremony, there was plenty of time for everyone to relax and celebrate over drinks and nibbles.

Along with the A frame table for serving drinks and nibbles, the couple hired With Love’s chic white high bar tables and stools, which were perfect for the post-ceremony garden party and all-in-one ceremony and reception celebrations.

It was a lovely, chilled afternoon. Family and the Best Man gave entertaining heartfelt speeches, and guests sipped bubbly, through back shots and grazed on a nibble’s platter while soaking up the atmosphere.

Helping couples from across the globe and all of the world to have their dream wedding in Brisbane is truly such an honour.

After enjoying plenty of time with their guests to celebrate their destination wedding in Brisbane, the couple took a stroll through the Botanic Gardens for some amazing photos with the lush garden backdrop.

One of the many beauties of weddings at Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens is that you don’t need to go far for photos, so after quickly capturing their stunning location photos, they were able to head back and continue partying the afternoon away with their nearest and dearest.

I realise this is waaaay more photos than I normally share in a blog post, but I can’t help myself. There are so many moments captured beautifully, so forgive me, just a few more to go.

Because you can’t travel all the way from the UK for a destination wedding in Brisbane without an iconic shot in Brisbane City with the river and Story Bridge in the backdrop, and that pink marshmallow sunset was right on cue!
